Get your BSN first
DigiD requires a BSN (Burgerservicenummer). If you do not have one yet, register at the gemeente or RNI first. Benefitly can help with both.

Apply online at digid.nl
Go to digid.nl and click DigiD aanvragen. Enter your BSN, date of birth, and Dutch postcode. Choose a username and password. The process takes about 5 minutes.

Receive the activation letter
An activation letter with a code is sent to your registered Dutch address within 3–5 business days. This letter is sent by post — you cannot receive it by email.

Download the DigiD app
Download the DigiD app on your smartphone (iOS or Android). Open the app and choose Activate DigiD app. Enter the activation code from your letter.

Use DigiD for government services
With active DigiD you can access zorgtoeslag, Belastingdienst, health insurance portals, MijnOverheid, and all Dutch government services.
